Rodent Boom : The undergrowth stirs with restless rustling; mice and rats are everywhere. Perhaps a blessing... perhaps a curse.
Territories and Subareas
Part of having wolves in-game is the need to claim a territory. A claimed territory consists of a sub-area in which the inhabiting pack regularly marks barriers and otherwise keeps strangers out. Claimed territories are important for packs because they provide stability and safety.

Claiming Territory

When you feel like you're ready for your pack to claim a territory, there are these requirements you'll have to meet:
  • Build up some history of inhabiting the area. You'll need at least 50 days (2 sub-seasons) of active and completed threads. Your characters should frequent the area, know it well, have stablished their scent there, and start marking the area.
  • The characters claiming the area must be part of a pack or troupe that has 5 or more members.
  • The founding characters must each have at least 25 in-character posts.
  • There must be in-character recruitment of each member who is not the leader of the pack, and they need to have formed a troupe at the very least during the time they were either wandering together, or lingering in the area. If they were already an established pack and are moving areas, then they still must meat the timeline requirement in bullet one.
  • Actively post the characters of the group showing up when others are in the area. While they may not be territorial yet as they have not fully claimed the area, they may be pushy or express interest in making it their home.

  • Note: Two packs can occupy one sub-area! So keep that in mind when working out claiming a territory. There may already be occupants, and borders may overlap. That's something you have to work out IC.

    When you're ready to claim:
  • Update the pack's page with the squares of the camp or territory the troupe or pack is occupying, the site will handle the rest.
  • Staff do not actively review pack creation but you should be doing your due diligence to ensure your pack meets the criteria. Packs who are found to have not met the criteria may be reset.
  • After the territory is claimed, you can begin to role-play that your pack has claimed the territory and your characters can start actively defending the territory and ensuring there are no intruders.
  • Discovering Subareas

Sometimes the sub-areas we have aren't quite what you're looking for. This is one of the areas where you can do a little bit of worldbuilding out of character. Maybe you saw a really cool picture of a crystal cave, or some really awesome landmark formation. You can use that as inspiration for discovering an area. However: exploration and discovery of the area must happen in-character.

Here's what you need to do:
  • Have at least 50 days spent in the area (just like with claiming a territory), in which there are steady active posts.
  • Have five completed threads in the new area where characters include descriptions of features of that area and what makes it unique.
  • You can discover a sub-area as an individual, as a troupe, or as a pack. So long as the requirements above are met, it can be considered.
  • Staff may deny the sub-area if it doesn't make sense. A lush green meadow in the middle of Ember Reach is not going to be approved. A small oasis would be, as a desert oasis is possible. So make sure that it makes sense for the parent area.
  • For creating a sub-area, you must post in Maintenance with details about the area you are claiming. Details should include:
    • Parent area name
    • The name of the new sub area
    • An image of the area (a high quality stock image)
    • Links to all threads that describe discovery of the area
    • A short description of the sub-area to go into the board description once it's made.
    • A declaration of the name of the pack who will be occupying the territory, or optionally a link to that pack.
  • That's really all there is to it! You get to build this world by discovery - that's why we started out with so few boards and areas. There is quite a bit of the map that we can fill in and change, and we're excited to see what you come up with for it and where the packs choose to settle.
