Waxing Crescent Climate - Late Summer Y0

Jul 31, 2025 ❯ I just want to put out a small announcement because we're already into mid summer and late summer will be here in a few weeks. And while early autumn is still a ways off, I'd like everyone to put thought into:

Do you want to volunteer to be a moderator?
What traits you look for in staff members?
How many staff you feel we will need?

(I've been handling most of it ok on my own if that helps, we'll def need more as we grow)

In the coming months after that, we should all consider who of those moderators may be suitable to bump up to admin. Both moderator promotions and admin promotions are handled fully by the community and staff team together.

Eventually, my role on Nocturne will be to guide and help reinforce rules/features that will not be changing, but otherwise let the team and the community do the work. I'm essentially there to be a helper, guide, and mediator for the staff team / community, and make the super big calls if they're really needed.

Having at least one admin who can access the admin panel (other than myself) will help with ensuring the site stays up to date and super important changes can happen so long as they aren't code-based. This is certainly something I can handle for some time - I am not stressed over it right now. :) Admins have the ability to edit nearly everything that isn't code.

Most actions on the site can be performed by moderators with little to no effort. There is a tool/feature for each task they'd like to complete.

To break down a moderator's duties:

Moderators are only responsible for general maintenance around the site which includes:

Updating the news as needed
Change of weather
Addition of random event rolls
Activating, creating, or de-activating events if needed
Deleting/reviewing attempt rolls
Responding to reports (if any) via the modbox
Escalating any reports that need action (such as a permanent ban)
They can update usernames, avatars, roles, display groups, titles, signature, suspend posting, add mod notes to a user, and update a user's bio [ all of these should only be completed as requested or needed ]
They can accept characters, but do not have access to the full admin panel to edit packs, boards, run the daily cron, fully edit users and characters, change or update themes, view admin logs, edit site pages, etc

To break down an admin's duties:

All tasks handled by moderators as well as:

Updating any user account details that moderators cannot (email, apply admin role, fully lock the account)
See/review explicit account details of members such as birthday, ip address, scratchpad, etc. (birthday and IP are needed as part of how nocturne functions and are only referenced in situations where a user's age might be in question or a user may need an IP ban)
Fully edit any character as needed
Fully edit any pack as needed
Management of user groups (admin, mod, member, wiki editor, or others that may come in the future)
Adding or removing boards such as new main areas or sub areas
Adding, removing, or editing all themes
Full access to site logs which shows deleted posts, moved threads, archived threads, and any actions taken inside the mod or admin panels that don't currently go to our discord channels
Ability to review the daily cron that makes our site time, weather, and pregnancies progress. Also the ability to run the cron if it ever fails
Add, edit, pages such as the privacy policy, terms of service, or any other custom content-only pages that are useful for information and which don't go in the wiki

Jul 24, 2025 ❯ Rodents of various types have begun to increase in numbers across the greater region. Emboldened by the cooler temperatures and virulent conditions, they are now active in every biome and at all hours. Their presence begins with scattered sightings and quickly builds into rolling waves of motion; scouring tall grass, squeaking and chittering through the night, nesting in long-abandoned dens, and even raiding food and herb caches.

What was once a plentiful snack has become a plague of vermin.

Some wolves may rejoice at the feast; others will be annoyed by the sheer numbers. Many may see this as a bad omen; vermin are rarely welcome in abundance. Rodent activity is visibly and audibly increased across the region. Week 2 and 3 of Mid Summer will mark the peak, before tapering off as the season ends. Hunting wolves may risk exposure to a variety of rodent-borne illnesses... or they may not. It is a time of easy food, if one is discerning enough.

Jul 18, 2025 ❯ While our Discord includes a live changelog of updates as they happen, there hasn’t been an on-site equivalent until now. To help fill that gap, I’ve compiled a summary of everything I’ve worked on over the past week as a general update here.

Summer

Golden light filters through aging leaves. The air holds a heaviness, broken by windstorms and crickets. You can sense autumn faintly in the coming days.
